Ski-lift Mechanic Dies After Fall

A longtime Killington ski-lift mechanic died after he reportedly fell 13 feet from the catwalk while working on Killington’s Skyeship gondola at its North Brook terminal on Saturday.

The mechanic, Jeffrey Chalk, 53, appears to have been working alone when the incident occurred. A fellow employee found him unresponsive on the cement floor of the terminal at approximately 4 p.m. After receiving medical attention onsite, Chalk was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:33 p.m. The state police report says there was evidence he sustained a serious head injury.

Chalk’s death is being jointly investigated by the Vermont State Police and the office of the chief medical examiner. Vermont State Police have made a standard referral to Vermont’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (VOSHA).
