Ski Patroller Dies

Joe Zuiches, a 42-year-old member of the Squaw Valley professional ski patrol, was killed in an incident during avalanche control activities. The cause of the incident, which occurred at the top of Gold Coast Ridge at Squaw Valley, is believed to be the detonation of an explosive charge.

In its statement, Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows said, “The team at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows is deeply saddened by this tragic event, and we extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends affected.”

Ski Patrol loves fresh snow as much as you and you owe those best days in the mountains to patrollers. They go into the worst storms at 6am and put their life on the line. When the worst happens, support them.

Joe is survived by his wife and infant son. The Joe Zuiches Memorial Fund has been established through Go Fund Me. The worst has happened, support Joe’s family.
