Banff Sunshine Village Opens First in Canada

Banff Sunshine Village

anff Sunshine Village has officially become the first ski resort in Canada to open for the 2025/26 winter season, welcoming skiers and riders to the slopes on Sunday, November 2. The early start may be the earliest opening in the resort’s 98-year history, launching the season nearly a week ahead of both last year’s debut and the resort’s own projected date — and just two days before Lake Louise Ski Resort opens on Tuesday, November 4. Ski Banff!

To mark the occasion, Sunshine Village invited guests to celebrate in style — Halloween costumes and Toronto Blue Jays jerseys were the day’s unofficial dress code. Skiers and snowboarders riding in costume or Jays gear received $10 vouchers from the resort team, with over 100 guests joining in the festive spirit.

“It’s so exciting to be the first ski resort in the country to open for the season,” said Kendra Scurfield, VP of Communications at Banff Sunshine Village. “This is the earliest opening in our corporate memory — we’re thrilled to welcome back skiers and snowboarders for another incredible season at Sunshine.”

Opening day saw Strawberry Express and the Learning Area come online, with all terrain under Strawberry Express available, including a seven-feature terrain park featuring two jib lines — one small and one medium.

Located within Banff National Park, Banff Sunshine Village is celebrated for its long operating season, typically stretching from early November through late May — one of the longest in North America. Just last week, the resort was named among SKI Magazine’s Top 30 Resorts in the West, ranking #2 overall in the publication’s prestigious readers’ poll for the second consecutive year.

Spanning 3,300 acres of skiable terrain, 137 runs, and three mountains, Sunshine Village continues to live up to its reputation for offering Canada’s Best Snow. Early season ticket pricing remains in effect until additional terrain opens.

With Lake Louise joining the fun this week, the Banff ski season is officially underway — time to wax the boards, grab your pass, and Ski Banff!
