The Canadian ski Community Mourns the Loss of Rémi Cloutier.
Remi Cloutier’s contributions to the advancement of skiing in Canada as a competitor, builder and supporter have been exceptional. He has been a model sportsman for a generation of young Canadian skiers who have benefited in a tangible way from his commitment and contribution to the sport.
In 1948, Remi won the Canadian Junior Downhill Championship at Mt Norquay, Banff, Alberta and in 1950 was invited to join the Canadian Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) team. Unfortunately, a broken leg while training precluding his participation.
Remi had an exemplary record as a senior administrator and fundraiser for the sport, a vice-president of Ski Quebec, president of the Laurentian Ski Division, president of the Ste-Agathe Ski Club, a vice-president of the Canadian Ski Association, a director of the Canadian Olympic Association and founding member of Canadian Sports Marketing Council.
Remi acted as a consultant at the 1988 Olympic Games held in Calgary, Alberta to the Hon Otto Jelinek, Minister for Sport in the Canadian federal government, and acted in the same capacity for the Commonwealth Games in Victoria, British Columbia.
As well as being involved in the promotion of major alpine skiing events, he served as Chair of the World Cup Freestyle Competition at Mt Tremblant, Quebec in 1997 and 1998.
Remi also worked with the Freestyle Canada Sales and Marketing team to raise corporate partner support. He was their top fundraiser for over a decade and secured sponsorships from the Canadian Government, Canada Post, Spyder, Auclair and many others.
Remi Cloutier was a true builder of Canadian skiing. He will be truly missed.
