At least five individuals were hospitalized following an incident on the Comet Express chairlift at Heavenly Ski Resort on Monday morning, according to officials.
The Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District confirmed they responded to the incident shortly after 10 a.m. near the Stagecoach Lodge. The injured were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, but details about the nature and extent of their injuries remain unclear.
In a statement issued around 3 p.m., a spokesperson for Heavenly Ski Resort acknowledged the incident, emphasizing guest safety as a top priority:
“Heavenly Mountain Resort can confirm an incident occurred on its Doppelmayr Comet Express chairlift today, Monday, December 23, 2024. The safety of our guests is our top priority, and the resort is investigating the incident.”
While the resort has yet to confirm specifics, a witness reported seeing a chairlift sliding backward into another, causing riders to fall to the ground.
Heavenly Ski Resort has launched an investigation into the cause of the incident and has not provided further updates at this time.
