A proposed 10-to-15-year master development plan for Winter Park Resort, Colo., includes a series of gondolas spanning nearly three miles that would connect downtown Winter Park to the Winter Park Resort village, among a variety of other elements that include new and replacement lifts, expanded terrain, new facilities, and more.Untitled design 2022 04 29T161155.519
Winter Park is currently gathering stakeholder feedback before submitting its plan to the National Forest Service for acceptance review—a preliminary step in a process that will require a variety of approvals before moving forward.
The town connection would include a 10-person gondola that would carry guests from downtown Winter Park up to the Copper Creek Summit, and another eight-person gondola would connect from there to the resort village. The development plan calls for the total number of lifts at Winter Park to increase from 23 to 29. An additional 358 acres of skiable terrain would be developed. The new terrain area would include new base and summit lodges. A reimagined learning area with new surface and aerial lifts is also part of the plan.
If adopted as proposed, the plan would increase staging capacity at the ski area from 16,000 to more than 23,000 skiers, and it is estimated that 28 percent of skiers would access the resort from the new town base.
More immediately, Winter Park Resort is breaking ground this summer on two new employee housing facilities with a total of 300 units. The new housing, which will include a mix of studios and individual rooms, will cater specifically to seasonal employees.
