Ikon Pass on Sale March 11 with Few Changes

Details of the 2021-22 Ikon Pass were released today, and they are nearly identical to the pre-Covid passes for 2020-21. Now encompassing 44 resorts, the primary options are the Ikon Pass, the more limited Ikon Base Pass, and four-day Ikon Session Pass. The first two come with many of the same benefits as for 2020-21, too. Passes go on sale March 11, with early-purchase pricing in effect until May 5.

Biggest change to the lineups is that Crystal Mountain, Wash., which saw some massive crowds two seasons ago, has moved from unlimited access on the Ikon Base Pass to just five days with blackouts. Access to Crystal remains unlimited on the full Ikon Pass.

Continuing benefits include a renewal discount of up to $100 (for the full Ikon Pass); access to a limited number of resorts this season following purchase; a payment plan; and discounts for children’s passes for ages 5-12. Adventure Assurance, the Covid program which allows buyers to defer their purchase for a season or receive a credit if Covid causes in-season closures, also remains, though the time frame for closure credits is more limited. For 2021-22, the window stretches from Dec. 18 to March 6; in 2020-21, it ran from Dec. 10 to April 11.

Alterra is holding the price of the Ikon Pass at $999; Ikon Base Pass goes to $729, up from $699. The Session Pass, valid at 37 resorts, remains $399. Rates for juniors ages 13-22, 5-12, and 4 and younger are lower. Nurses, military, and college student discounts are also available with valid identification.

The full Ikon Pass includes access to 44 resorts. Access is unlimited at 15 resorts, and restricted to seven days of access at another 21. Seven groups of resorts, including Alta/Snowbird and Killington/Pico, also offer seven days at each group. There are no blackout dates.

The Ikon Base Pass includes access to 41 resorts. It is unlimited at seven resorts, and subject to blackout dates at another six. The Base Pass also includes five days, with blackouts, at 19 resorts, and without blackouts at three more (Mt. Buller, Australia; Valle Nevado, Chile, and Zermatt, Switzerland). Six groups of resorts provide five days at each group, subject to blackout dates. Base Pass buyers can add five days at Jackson Hole, Wyo., and five days at the four Aspen Snowmass resorts for an additional $150, as was the case for 2020-21.
