Valle Nevado in Chile is the latest resort to jump on the Ikon Pass bandwagon. The Alterra Mountain Company announced today that Valle Nevado will become the second resort in the Southern Hemisphere, after Thredbo in Australia, to partner with the Ikon Pass to offer skiers and riders seven days of summer skiing with no blackout dates. Yes skiers, the Ikon Base Pass holders receive 5 days, also with no restrictions.
“Valle Nevado is an ideal addition to the Ikon Pass community. Now Ikon Pass holders can extend their 2019 season by booking a trip to Chile for the legendary above-treeline terrain in the Andes that Valle Nevado serves up,” said Erik Forsell, Chief Marketing Officer of Alterra Mountain Company.
Valle Nevado is conveniently located just 90 minutes from Santiago International Airport and is one of South America’s most popular ski destinations, offering up an average annual snowfall of 240 inches and 2,400 acres of skiable terrain.
“Valle Nevado is thrilled to be the newest member of the Ikon Pass and to give all Ikon Pass holders the unique opportunity to ski and ride the Andes Mountains during the Southern Hemisphere’s winter,” said Ricardo Margulis, Valle Nevado’s chief executive officer. “We are very excited to not only show off our superb terrain and stunning alpine views, but also our culture, our outstanding wine and cuisine, and our warm Chilean hospitality.”
Ikon Pass holders now have access to 34 destinations in North America, Niseko in Japan, Thredbo in Australia, and Valle Nevado in Chile. For those who just got their fancy Ikon Pass packets in the mail, you’ll need to pull out that nifty destinations map and pencil in one more resort. And best to leave that pencil nearby—we have a feeling that map’s not done changing yet.
