Central Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor Resort is close to implementing its long-term plan to reestablish itself as a premier destination for skiers and snowboarders. The Deschutes National Forest has given what might be the last required approval for the project. But the project isn’t over the finish line yet.
The 10-year plan calls for an expansion of trails and lifts on the east side of Bachelor, as well as a broad overhaul of many of the resort’s existing features and amenities.
Andy Goggins is Mt. Bachelor’s Director of Marketing and Communications. He says for a time in the late 80s, Bachelor had more high-speed lifts than Vail, Colorado. He says this expansion will improve the overall experience for visitors, not just during the winter, but in the summer months, as well.
“In the summertime we are planning on expanding on our activities and amenities on the mountain with downhill mountain biking as well as zip lines. So we’ll be more of a full-season, year-round operation with those activities,” says Goggins.
The project still faces one more climb, however – a 45-day appeal period, after which work can begin.
